Short Course on Statistics and Variography
Reserves and resources are the only significant asset that a mining company owns. All other plant and equipment is worthless if the resource is absent or lacking. For this reason it is vital that resource estimates be as precise as possible and that the individuals responsible for defining the resource be highly trained. To quickly train individuals new to resource estimation and to reinforce an expand the training of experienced personnel CRM provides three one-week training courses: Statistics and Variograms, Kriging and Uncertainty, and Conditional Simulation.
The first course, Statistics and Variography, will demonstrate the steps necessary to define and separate geological populations for estimation. This is the critical step in resource estimation. One these populations have been defined, the methods of measuring and modeling correlation using the variogram will be demonstrated.
